"NexRad" Doppler Radar

This film loop is the last 50 radar scans taken from the "NexRad" [NEXt generation RADar] doppler radar station at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware operated by the National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration (NOAA). It shows low altitude reflectivity, which is optimized to display precipitation. The radar data is updated every 5 - 20 minutes, depending on the amount of precipitation falling in the radar coverage area. If there is little precipitation, extensive noise from ground clutter is often seen in the vicinity of the radar site.
